I decided this time round I'd give everyone an insight into what happens behind the scenes at our Big Picture Live webcasts. We've also posted the full watch again with Ruaraidh MacNeil, Project Director, at Inverness Campus so that you can catch up with what's happening at this really exciting project.
10.15am all the gear loaded up and ready to go. Checked everything six times to make sure nothing is missing.
10.16am U turn in Ballifeary Rd to go back to get my specs, well they’re not really equipment are they?
10.40am arrive at Loch Ness Country House Hotel, today’s venue. First job get the gear unpacked. Now you might think as the onscreen “talent” I’d be spared this grief, but no, bet Jeremy Paxman doesn’t need to do this stuff.
11.15am gear set up and the crew (sounds more impressive than Tom and Allan somehow) look confident that we are good to go a full 45 minutes before we go live.
11.30am coffee and short bread, the latter of which is the only reason I agree to do these things and a final read through the set questions.
11.40am Ruaraidh our guest arrives, looks like we have agreed some strange pact on a coordinated suit colour but honestly it was a real fluke.
11.45am make up lady arrives to ensure Ruaraidh and I look our best on camera. That is in fact a lie, we both actually do look this good in real life!!!
11.55am quick live five minute warning. Managed to remember not to say if you can’t hear me turn up your speakers. Really who would be daft enough to do that?
High Noon its all systems go as we get the 5 4 3 2 1 from our slick producer (his words not mine).
12.50pm finish bang on time to a collective sigh of relief and a dash for some air. There’s nothing hotter than Redheads in a confined space (please note the fancy technical term for our studio lights, before my wife or indeed Ruaraidh’s, start to get suspicious).
1pm shoot a few extra questions with Ruaraidh out on the lawn, before retiring to the patio for Pimms and Lemonade (another flight of fancy brought on by the heat).
2.30pm back to the office where we are greeted like media celebrities. You can work out if that’s a lie or not for yourself but I don’t expect you’ll find that too hard.
